Welcome to St. John the Baptist!
Dear Parish Family,
As some of you may have heard by now, Cardinal Dolan recently announced that the Parish of Saint John the Baptist-Most Holy Trinity will merge with the Parish of Saint Ann’s. As of July 1, 2023, a new parish will be created, the Parish of Saint John the Baptist-Most Holy Trinity-Saint Ann. The main reason for this merger is to strengthen and maintain the vitality of our parishes. In addition, the increasing shortage of priests has made it at best difficult, if not impossible, to provide pastors for each of the parishes in the Archdiocese of New York.
Both churches will remain open for Masses and Sacraments. Beginning in July, we will have one bulletin for the newly merged parish and it will be distributed at both churches. There will also be one parish council, one finance council, and one set of trustees, consisting of members of both originating parishes.
Some programs have already been merged; Religious Education and RCIA. Other programs will remain separate. For example, the senior groups from each parish will continue to meet separately at each respective church.
The merger will affect the use of Saint Ann’s rectory. All the assigned priests of the newly formed parish will live together at Saint John the Baptist rectory. The rectory will be renamed “a parish house” which will serve both communities. Although no priest will live in the rectory at Saint Ann’s, we will continue to have meetings and other gatherings there.
I know this decision will require adjustments from many of you, and I thank you in advance for your openness to them. If any parishioner would like to discuss this transition with me in person, please let me know. I am confident that, working together as one parish, and placing our trust in God, we will all be able to transition smoothly into the next chapter in the life of our parish family.
Peace and prayers,
Fr. Stephen P. Norton

St. John’s has been serving the people of God in a residential area of Yonkers for over 100 years. Ever since the parish was established by the Archdiocese of New York in 1903, St. John’s has been preaching and teaching the gospel, administering the sacraments, and helping to meet the spiritual, religious, and pastoral needs of the community. We welcome all who wish to join us for prayer and worship; all who are seeking to do God’s will; all who are open to the invitation which Jesus extends to every person of goodwill:
“Come, follow me!”
“Whatever its size, a parish must be a home where the members of Christ’s Body come together to meet the Father, who is full of love, as well as the Savior, His Son, and do so with willingness to accept their brothers and sisters with fraternal love, whatever their condition or origin.” – Saint John Paul II
