"When The Scriptures are read in a church, God Himself speaks to His people." - Roman Missal
Lectors (Readers) proclaim the Scriptures that are assigned to be read at a daily or Sunday Mass. Only a priest or deacon is permitted to proclaim the gospel, but ever since the reform of the liturgy after the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), lay people may be commissioned to proclaim the other Mass readings as well as the Prayers of the Faithful.
At St. John's, any registered parishioner may request to serve as a lector at Mass. Requests may be made at the rectory. Ms. Betty Ann Menchen assists with the preparation of lectors for ministry at St. John's.
